Elqui Wines Carmenere Blend 2016
Carmenere 60%, Malbec 26%, Syrah 14%
The Elqui Valley borders the Pacific Ocean, the Atacama Desert, and the Andes Mountains and while it’s closer to the equator than any other fine wine region in Chile, cool evening winds blow through every night to produce high acid wines. The Carmenere is late harvested grapes from brutal terrain. The Malbec comes from a warm sight adding ripeness and a floral component unique to Chilean Malbec. The Syrah from a cool climate vineyard in an ancient rocky riverbed keeps things elegant. Husband and wife team Steffan Jorgensen and Pamela Nunez (a Chilean native) barrel aged all the juice in new, 1st and 2nd use French, American and Hungarian oak barrels for 2 years. The wine is deep, dark and rich with notes of black currant, earth and spice.
