Bedrock, Old Vine Zinfandel 2018
Bedrock’s winemaker Morgan Twain-Peterson grew up making wine with his father, Joel Peterson, founder of Ravenswood, any many of his wines come from sites his father first used when starting Ravenswood. Bedrock is a founding member of The Historic Vineyard Society which is dedicated to saving, preserving and rehabilitating historic sites and promoting their viticultural diversity. Bedrock is making wine in a converted chicken coop. Fruit is hand pitch-forked into the destemmer, fermented in open top redwood and stainless vats using only native yeasts, and are manually basket pressed into the French oak casks. The 2017 vintage was aged 60% in foudres of various sizes and 40% in smaller French oak barrels. Tasting notes include ripe red cherry, red plum, cedar, tobacco, and floral aromas with silky tannins.
