Bosman, Pet Nat 2017
Upper Hemel En Aarde Valley, South Africa
The Bosman family have been making wine in Wellington since 1810 and have a 260 year old cellar. Their approach is holistic - focusing on better lives for the people working on the farm and the plants on it. They have one of the pre-eminent vine nurseries in the southern hemisphere to ensure a continuous supply of healthy rootstock and vines. The grapes come from a cool climate sight acquired in 2000. The winemaking process involves whole bunch ferment, press, bottle, riddle, disgorge and that’s it. There’s no additions of any kind. Some sediment is evident from the natural, hands-off approach of winemaking. It’s a vibrant blue-purple with plum, sour cherry and blackberry notes. It is Extra Brut style, thus very dry and refreshing.
