Deep Creek, Watershed Reserve, Cabernet Franc 2018
Deep Creek Cellars has been making “natural” wine since its inception by using organic and biodynamic practices before it was cool as they saw practiced by farmer-winemakers in europe. They use minimal oak subtly to let the fruit shine, because they believe that that great wine starts in the vineyard. The husband and wife team promote local art and farming at their vineyard in the far western corner of the state. This wine, containing 2% Norton grapes from Bear Hill vineyard, has juicy cherry and black fruit notes with a touch of violet, earth, and wood. 98% Cabernet Franc, 2% Norton. You might recognize from our shelves that we have a soft spot for Cab Franc. Loire Valley cab franc is wonderful and it is a well suited grape for Maryland’s climate. A touch of Norton softens and juici-fies the wine. This wine, also from Mike and Barbara’s Bear Hill vineyard, has juicy cherry notes with a touch of violet and wood.
