Leo Hillinger organic farming at 19 in California and took over his father's wine businessin 1990 at 23. He has since bought up a lot of great vineyards around Jois and Rust, which are known for producing outstanding reds, and converted them to organic. In 2004, he invested six million Euros in a new production site with tasting and seminar center, state of the art cellar technology, and sophisticated architecture. Since then he has opened a flagship store in Parndorf, Burgenland and lounges in Vienna, Salzburg, Munich and Kitzbühel. The wine employs native yeast spontaneous fermentation.
