Vaglio "Aggie" Malbec 2017
Valle de Ucco, Mendoza, Argentina
José Lovaglio Balbo is one of the head winemakers at his mother’s pioneering winery Dominio del Plata, in Lujan de Cuyo. He operates Vaglio independently from his family to showcase the different microclimates of northern Mendoza through terroir-driven wines. He renovated an old, small gravity-fed concrete winery in Tupungato in 2013. Here, he produces single vineyard wines from different sub-regions and soil types, all vinified in the same way with minimal intervention and oak contact. This wine comes from a sustainably farmed vineyard at nearly 4,000 ft elevation with stoney soil. The ferments with native yeast for 40 days, rests for 8 months in 40% new French oak and is only coarsely filtered. The wine is medium bodied and mineral driven but soft and round with dessert-like flavors of chocolate, blueberry and hazelnut.
