85% Verdejo, 15% Viura. Garciarevalo is a family-owned winery in the heart of Rueda. You can still find seashells in the sandy soils at 900 meters in elevation. The sand and elevation protected the vines from phylloxera when it spread across the region about 100 years ago, so 145 years old Verdejo vines still exist along with young vine Verdejo and a few Viura grapes as well. The sand and allows for excellent drainage and location has cold winters and nights and warm summers and days, allowing for the development of acid and sugar in ideal contrast. Free-run juice is fermented in stainless steel, and then bottled directly from the tanks. The winery describes the 2018 vintage as, “Lots of bright lemon peel and blossom on the nose. Great purity of fruit, with notes of quince, melon, and apricot. On the palate it’s mineral-driven, with a pleasant light bitter note on the finish.”
