Hibernaculum Fahey 2018
Nathan Zeender, former owner/brewer at Right Proper and native of Takoma Park, has named his first wine for the legendary Takoma Park guitarist John Fahey. The name is appropriate for the totally original, funky, spontaneously-native fermented, unfined, unfiltered, free-run local juice with no added sulfites or anything else for that matter. The Norton grape is native to this region and produces wine with juiciness while the winemaking style lends complexity and funkiness. Hibernaculum is a mobile winery in a former shipping container that sits at Distillery Lane Ciderworks in Frederick County, Maryland right now. It’s fitted with solar power and batteries to be as low-impact as possible. This wine would be perfect with some wild game charcuterie and funky cheeses, or, sit back and enjoy a glass with Sligo Creek Blues playing in the background. This is ancient winemaking of the future. Only 54 cases were made.
