K. Descombes Cuvee Keke 2018
Morgon, Beaujolais, France
Kewin, known in his youth as Keke, released his first wine when he was 21. He has 15 acres of vines from his father and renowned winemaker Georges Descombes, and four acres that he rents. His brother and uncle make fine Beaujolais as well. Cuvée Kéké is his entry-level wine that is meant to be drunk young but it comes from 50 year old vines and is an outstanding example of Beaujolais at any price point. It undergoes partial carbonic maceration and is aged for 5 months in used oak. The wine is bright and juicy on the palate with lingering complexity and just the right amount of earthy funk.
