Kontozisis Vineyards, Drop By Drop The Jar Fills Up 2018
Kontozisis Organic Vineyards crafts natural, organic wines from indigenous grapes at the foothills of Mount Agrafa near the rural town of Karditsa in Thessaly. Andreas and Aphrodite Kontozisis have been making organic wine since 1991. A few loyal local fans of Kontozisis wines were enough to keep it going until sustainable wines caught on globally. Their 40 year old, low yield, organic vines are grown in sandy loam soils in the warm mediteranean climate and hand harvested. A couple of drip irrigations occur each year if needed. The free run juice is cold extracted before fermentation and temperature controlled during fermentation to prevent malo. The wine spends two months in stainless steel with lees stirring and the wine is unfined and unfiltered. A small amount of sulfites are added only at bottling.
