Old Westminster Ramato Pet Nat 2018
Ramato is an Italian term used in Friuli where the red and purple hues of the ripe grapes impart a pale copper color to the wine and tannins are released as the juice is macerated with the skins. It’s a great bridge between rosé fans and trendy orange wines. Old Westminster has been using old wine making styles like this that have been gaining traction in the natural wine world. The three siblings running the winery today have transitioned Old Westminster to Natural winemaking practices including, wild yeast fermentations, spare use of additives, and minimal intervention to produce enjoyable wines that are expressive of the terroir. The winery has a nice tasting room and is only about an hour away. Go visit!
