Domaine Badoz, Chardonnay, Cotes du Jura 2016
Jura runs East of Burgundy toward Geneva and the region's wines are somewhat French and somewhat Swiss, while often neither - often oxidative, and rustic. This chardonnay is made in a more modern, non-oxidative fashion in stainless steel. This preserves flavors of white flowers, citrus, apple, and minerals.
Domaine Badoz dates back to 1659 and their current winemaker, Benoit Badoz, represents its 10th generation of family vintners. He studied agriculture at the Lycée Viticole de Beaune and then trained at Carillon in Puligny-Montrachet and Petrus in Pomerol before working at more wineries abroad. He now cultivates their 24.7 acres in Poligny to maintain ecological balance and vinifies with minimal levels of SO2.
