Domaine Badoz, Grains de Poulsard, Cotes du Jura 2018
Jura runs East of Burgundy toward Geneva and the region's wines are somewhat French and somewhat Swiss, while often neither - often oxidative, and rustic. This wine shows a bit of both of these qualities. It gets a quick maceration for a light color. There are faint spice aromas on the nose and notes of dried fruit and morello cherry on the palate. It's easy-drinking and would be a red wine to break out with fish.
Domaine Badoz is dates back to 1659. Benoit Badoz represents the 10th generation of vintners at their family domaine. He studied agriculture at the Lycée Viticole de Beaune and then trained at Carillon in Puligny-Montrachet and Petrus in Pomerol before working at more wineries abroad. He now cultivates their 24.7 acres in Poligny to maintain ecological balance and vinifies with minimal levels of SO2.
