Domaine Saint Cyr, Terroir de Bellevue, Beaujolais 2019
The wine is lively and concentrated. It's light to medium-bodied with forest floor, herbs, and floral notes on the nose. There's plenty of strawberry and cherry to go with bright, juicy acidity and light, integrated tannins to make it an easy-drinking, yet complex wine.
The grapes come from 70-year-old vines on the vineyard Bellevue's famous limestone soils. It's in Anse at the southern end of Beaujolais. They're hand-harvested and destemmed before 15 days of semi-carbonic maceration with only native yeasts, and then aged in concrete tanks for 6 months. Just 10 mg of SO2 is added at bottling.
Domaine St. Cyr was created by Pierre Saint Cyr. Now his grandson, Raphael Saint Cyr makes the wine and started converting their property to organic in 2008.
