Field Recordings, SKINS 2019
Central Coast, California (Martin Brothers, Zabala, and Greengate Vineyards)
50% Chenin, 35% Riesling, and 15% Pinot Gris
This is a great intro into orange made from aromatic grapes and richer Chenin. It has a floral nose, plenty of acidity and a hint of bitterness to pair with food, as well as lots of stone fruit and a touch of almond on the palate.
The three varietals in this orange wine are macerated, fermented, and aged separately - the Chenin juice spends four weeks with skins in barrique; the Riesling spends six weeks with skins then four more months aging in Acacia barrels. The Pinot Gris spends six weeks on skins then six months in barrique.
